The old Bukharan neighbourhood of Jerusalem was settled in the late 19th century and grew into an elegant and prestigious neighbourhood. Settled by wealthy immigrant Jews from the Central Asian region of Bukhara of Uzbekistan, it boosted large homes centred around spacious courtyards and relatively wide streets. Today the area still has remnants of those bygone years and this beautiful doorway is one of many that have been retained. The shadows on the door and the intertwining ivy are the focal point of this painting.
