About

As an Israeli artist living in the Old Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem, I am delighted to have an endless source of the city's subjects to paint. It is here that I give art lessons in drawing and watercolor. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, I have been living in Israel since high school. The charm of Jerusalem and Safed (Tsfat) are the subjects of most of my contemporary work. Houses, doors, windows and alleyways are favorite themes of my Jerusalem watercolor series. When I paint, my aim is to capture the wonder of a scene on paper- just as it appeared to me when it first caught my eye. The subjects I choose range from the dramatic to the understated. Intense sunlight and luminous shadows play pivotal roles.

My painting in Israel started as a hobby while I was studying Social Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. After learning with several Israeli artists, I eventually spent several years studying watercolor painting privately with Elana Mark. She introduced me to the Betty Edward's method of "drawing on the right side of the brain" which led to an immediate and dramatic improvement in my artistic abilities.

I teach drawing and watercolor painting to adults. The experience is a constant source of joy and there is a lively exchange of ideas about composition, style, color and values. The subjects the students choose vary widely including landscapes, still life, Jerusalem art, modern Israel and abstract. These art lessons inspire and challenge me to continually explore new subjects and watercolor painting techniques. I also offer virtual online art classes in drawing and painting for individuals and groups.

With preference for transparent pigments, I use quality watercolor art paints in tubes by Winsor & Newton Cotman, Sennelier and cold pressed paper by Canson Montval, Sennelier and Strathmore. My brushes are by Winsor & Newton and Rekab.

Originals and giclee reproductions of my artwork are for sale. My watercolor paintings are in private collections in Israel and abroad. An earlier series depicting Holyland subjects and Jewish art is available on request.

אני מציירת בצבעי מים (אקוורל) מזה 25 שנה.  השקיפות והאווריריות של המדיום פשוט מרתקות אותי.

כציירת ירושלמית, אני מאד נהנית מהנוף האורבני ולכן הציור הוא מעין מסע נוסטלגי.  בציורי ירושלים וצפת תהליך זה הוא עוד יותר אישי ומעורר רגשות של כמיהה והערצה לעידן אחר.

קסמם של השכונות הוותיקות מושך אותי כל הזמן.  החן הירושלמי ניכר בהרבה פינות גלויות  ונסתרות וישנם גם נושאים משעשעים שממש קורצים לי לצייר אותם.  

בכל יצירורתי- תמונות נוף ישראליות, ציורי סמטאות ירושלים הוותיקות כמו נחלאות וימין משה- אני מנסה לשחזר אותו רגע בו גיליתי את הנושא המרכזי בתמונה.  אני שואפת לשחזר את האור והצל ובעיקר את הרגשות שליוו אותי לצייר ולשמר אותו רגע.

טיולים בגליל- בעיקר בעמק החולה וברמת הגולן-  עם כל הפתיחות, המרחבים וגוונים האינסופיים של ירוק, משמשים מקור השראה ליצירותי בצפון הארץ.  הכרתי אותם מקומות לראשונה בכיתה י'- אותה שנה בה עליתי ארצה ממלבורן אוסטרליה.

הציור החל אצלי כתחביב כשלמדתי בפקולטה למדעי החברה באוניברסיטה העברית ביורשלים.  לאחר השתתפות בחוגים אצל ציירים ישראלים מקומיים, הגעתי לציירת הירושלמית אילנה מארק אשר הכירה לי את סודות של העולם הנפלא של הציור בצבעי מים.  

מאז 1997 אני מנחה חוגים פרטיים לציור בצבעי  מים, ולרישום בטכניקת האונה הימנית של המח.  החוגים מתקיימים במעוני בקטמון הישנה. אני גם מעבירה שיעורים וירטואילים ברישום וציור אונליין לבודדים וקבוצות.
